Liz Torres
Liz Torres (* 27. September 1947 in New York City as Elizabeth Larrieu Torres ) is an American actress , singer and comedienne .
Private life
Torres' parents were originally from Puerto Rico , but immigrated to New York and settled in the Bronx . Torres also completed her school education there. She currently lives in Los Angeles , California .

She began her career as a comedian and singer in small New York nightclubs, where she and her friend Bette Midler shared the musician Barry Manilow as a companion. Her breakthrough came in 1971 when she was discovered by the producer of the Johnny Carson's Tonight Show during one of her appearances. He offered her a stand-up comedy appearance on the show. After that, she was seen in various comedy programs, such as All in the Family , Ally McBeal and The Nanny .
Torres made her first film appearance in 1969 when she played a prostitute in a low-budget film called Utterly Without Redeeming Social Value . She then played various roles in over 50 films and had more than 100 guest appearances on television.
In 1990 she was nominated for an Emmy Award for her acting performance in the role of Angie in the television series The Famous Teddy Z and received a Bravo Award for Outstanding Individual Performance in a Comedy Series . In 1993 she portrayed Mahalia Sanchez on night shift with John and was nominated again for an Emmy and a Golden Globe Award. Liz was also nominated for two American Comedy Awards in the Best Female Television Artist category.
However, Liz Torres continued to be seen on stages. She played on Broadway in The Ritz , Man of La Mancha and House of Blue, among others .
Torres was also successful as an RCA recording artist, gave a command performance for Morocco's King Hussan II, and was invited by President Carter to America's First National Hispanic Week Celebration at the White House. All of this in addition to her nightclub appearances, her one-woman show, and working with stars like Liza Minnelli and Tony Bennett .
From 2000 she was part of the Gilmore Girls ensemble , where she mimes dance teacher Patricia LaCosta, aka Miss Patty . The role of the ex-Broadway dancer, who divorced four times and is more interested in small-town rumors than in big appearances, she embodied in all seven seasons (until 2007) as well as the miniseries Gilmore Girls: A New Year (2016).
