Lisa Lisa (* 15. January 1966 ; actually Lisa Velez ) and her band Cult Jam are an American Pop , Freestyle and Contemporary R & B - band and also one of the first freestyle bands of the 1980s.
Life and work
Lisa Velez is of Puerto Rican descent and grew up in New York City but attended North Miami Senior High School in North Miami Beach, Florida. The band Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam was put together and produced by the music production team Full Force , they then signed a record deal with Columbia Records . In 1985 her album Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam with Full Force was released , which was a small success commercially with the releases I Wonder If I Take You Home , Can You Feel the Beat and All Cried Out . The latter song gave the band their national breakthrough in the United States.
The band achieved a bigger sales success in 1987 with the album Spanish Fly , the songs Head to Toe and Lost in Emotion made number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 , while the song Someone to Love Me for Me could not join the successful series. The following singles Everything Will B-Fine and Go for Yours (soundtrack to the film Caddyshack II ) found their attention in the US R&B and dance charts.
Their 1989 album Straight to the Sky could not continue the soaring, Little Jackie Wants to Be a Star received a moderate chart success , but the songs Just Git It Together and Kiss Your Tears Away were not well received in the US R&B and dance charts .
Her fourth studio album, Straight Outta Hell's Kitchen , also largely fell short of success expectations, such as Let the Beat Hit 'Em , Let the Beat Hit' Em (Part 2) and Where Were You When I Needed You . Meanwhile, Velez tried her hand at acting, while Moseley and Hughes devoted themselves to other projects.
Due to the failures, the band switched to the label Mass Appeal Entertainment , which could not give them a single comeback with the albums LL77 (1994) and Life 'n Love (2009).
Lisa Valez had a supporting role as Taina's mother Gloria in the television series Taina from 2001 to 2002 .
