Forever is a song by the American musician Chris Brown . It was released on April 19, 2008 as the fifth single from the album Exclusive , but can only be found on "Exclusive: The Forever Edition" . After the release, the song reached number two in the Billboard Hot 100 and position 20 in the German single charts .

background

Brown explained that Polow da Don created the rhythm in the studio and Brown wrote the lyrics at the same time. However, since the producer's style was more European and shaped by techno and house , the rest of the participants wanted to move more towards pop music .

The published version of the song arose from a commercial for Doublemint chewing gum made by The Wrigley Company . Brown and his team wrote the shorter version of the title especially for this commercial, then extended and modified the song during a recording session in a recording studio in February 2008. The recording session was paid for by the gum maker.

The song was originally supposed to appear on a third Brown studio album, but Brown said he wasn't ready to release a new album. In addition, his record label was originally against selling the title as a single. The song was then so "good" that one finally believed in a suitable commercial success.

Music video

The music video was shot in Los Angeles in April 2008 , with Joseph Kahn , who also shot the videos for Brown's songs Crawl and I Can Transform Ya in 2009 , as director.

The video opens with a scene in which Brown arrives at a club and chews gum (a nod to the commercial the song was originally written for). He sings the first verse of the title while the other guests of the club dance. He later leaves the club to follow his beloved, played by Megan Abrigo . He continues to dance when the two stand in front of a water fountain.

reception

Bill Lamb rated the song four and a half stars out of five and felt it was one of Brown's best songs to date. In Billboard , it was said that the song "is really a love song, one by the electrifying production of Polow da Don and also the" dance floor ignite "may". Alex Fletcher of Digital Spy described hearing the track as "a pleasant experience, but the song never really finds its own identity".
