Laurieann Gibson (born July 14, 1969 in Toronto , Ontario ; also known as Laurie Ann Gibson ) is a Canadian choreographer , actress and creative director .

Laurieann Gibson was born and raised in Toronto (Canada). Her career began with the Alvin Ailey Dance Company in New York City , where she learned to dance . She came to hip-hop through theater dance and worked as head of choreography for Motown and Bad Boy Records .

In 1989 she was seen as a dancer in the film Sing , with Lorraine Bracco and Jessica Steen in the lead roles, in which the actor Cuba Gooding Jr. and the singer Patti LaBelle can each be seen in a supporting role. In 1992 she got a role in the film Malcolm X by Spike Lee , with Denzel Washington in the lead role, again as a dancer. Gibson was then seen in the US television series, In Living Color from Fox , where the brothers Keenen Ivory and Damon Wayans wrote the script and starred as actors.

She made her breakthrough with the dance film Honey , which is based on Gibson's life. Jessica Alba embodied in the lead role Honey and Gibson to rival Katrina . In addition to her acting in the film, Gibson was also responsible for the choreography in the film. Since Alba had no dance lessons before, she was trained by Laurie for almost three months before shooting began. In the sequel Honey 2 - Don't skip a move , she can be seen as Rebecca .

In 2005 she worked as a choreographer in the reality show Making the Band 3 . She was looking for a female supergroup for the record label Bad Boy Records together with P. Diddy , for which she worked in castings in several cities and selected women. This created the girl group Danity Kane , which Gibson looks after as a choreographer and which received a recording contract from P. Diddy. That same year, she appeared as a guest judge and choreographer in four episodes of the first season of the US reality show, So You Think You Can Dance . In the same year, she released her own dance DVD, where she performed hip-hop moves to practice.

In 2007 she worked in the fourth season of Making the Band and was available as a choreographer for the resulting boy group Day26 , which received a record deal from Bad Boy Records , such as Danity Kane , after the series. In 2009 she was a jury member alongside P. Diddy , Rodney Jerkins and Tamara Conniff on the talent show P. Diddy's Starmaker , which was broadcast in the US on MTV . Kimberly Caldwell moderated the show. In the US version of Dancing on Ice (also known as Stars on Ice) , Skating with the Stars , Gibson was a juror alongside Richard Button and Johnny Weir .

E! Entertainment Television is planning a reality show about Laurie Ann's life and work in January 2011, the show being produced by Ryan Seacrest . It is also planned that Gibson will be able to see another reality show in June 2011.

Gibson is also known as a music video choreographer. In addition to the musicians and bands that are under contract with Motown and Bad Boy Records ( P. Diddy , Cassie , Danity Kane and Day26 ), she has also worked with Missy Elliott , Lady Gaga , Katy Perry , Nicki Minaj , Alicia Keys , JoJo, among others , Corbin Bleu , Brandy , Jordin Sparks , Keri Hilson and Jeffree Star , on their music video choreographies.

In October 2009, Gibson announced on Twitter that Lady Gaga and Kanye West's tour had to be canceled due to creative differences before a press release from the singers came out.

In September 2010 Naomi Campbell showed a dance routine that she rehearsed the night before with Laurie Ann Gibson at a Dolce & Gabbana Fashion Night . In the same month the singer Nicki Minaj released the single Your Love with will.i.am , for which Gibson was again responsible for the music video.

For Lady Gaga she created choreographies for the following music videos Poker Face , LoveGame , Paparazzi , Telephone , Alejandro and Bad Romance . The latter received an MTV Video Music Award for Best Choreography in 2010 . In May 2011, Gibson directed Lady Gaga's Monster Ball concert at Madison Square Garden . She worked as Gaga's choreographer and creative director at the same time until November 2011, when Lady Gaga dismissed her due to increasing tensions between her and Gibson. In October 2010, Gibson recorded her first music video for singer Keri Hilson (song: The Way You Love Me ) and also acted as a choreographer.
