Danity Kane was an American girl group of five singers, which emerged in 2006 from the third season of the song competition Making the Band broadcast by MTV and hosted by rapper P. Diddy .
Band history
2005: Making the Band
In July 2005, Shannon Bex, Aundrea Fimbres, Aubrey O'Day, Dawn Richard and Wanita "D. Woods" Woodgette were among 18 (originally around 10,000) young women who, after passing auditions, several successful recalls, restructuring and one new As part of the MTV singing competition Making the Band 3, they moved to a loft in New York City to take part in a subsequent workshop. During the several months of singing and dance training under the direction of the choreographer Laurie Ann Gibson, the singer Doc Holiday and the talent manager Johnny Wright, the number of participants decreased to eleven under the judgment of rapper P. Diddy .
On December 8, 2005, Bex, Fimbres, O'Day, Richard and Woodgette finally learned within a special edition of the format that they would emerge as winners of the competition and become part of the final formation. A little later, the girl group, which from then on called itself Danity Kane (after a fictional anime drawing by Dawn), moved into a new joint domicile in Manhattan and began preparations for their debut album.
2006: Danity Kane
In August 2006, the debut album that bore the band name was released in the USA. The record, recorded by well-known producers such as Timbaland , Scott Storch , Ryan Leslie , Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins and Mario Winans , sold more than 230,000 copies in its first week of release alone, placing it at number 1 on the US album charts. The album has now been certified platinum for more than 1.2 million copies sold . The record's first single, Show Stopper , reached number 8 on the Billboard charts and was in the top 30 in both Germany and Lithuania . The second release with the title Ride for You , however, failed to make it into the Billboard Top 50.
Between February and May 2007, Danity Kane and the Pussycat Dolls accompanied singer Christina Aguilera as the opening act during their back-to-basics tour through North America. Around the same time, the quintet began preparing for their second album.
2008: Welcome to the Dollhouse
At the end of 2007, as part of another MTV season , the five moved into a joint house with Day26 , the winning band of the subsequent Making-the-Band season, where the group began with the studio recordings for Welcome to the Dollhouse . From March 5, 2008, MTV Deutschland broadcast the program on Wednesdays.
From January 31, 2008, their single Damaged was available in the American iTunes version, the accompanying video was shown for the first time on March 11, 2008 on MTV USA on the TRL show. The band's second album, Welcome to the Dollhouse , was released on March 18, 2008 in the USA. In Germany it was released on May 9, 2008. Her second single Bad Girl was released in June.
In mid-October, Aubrey was fired from P. Diddy during the show Making the Band 4 in front of cameras, D. Woods got out of the formation with her. A few weeks later Shannon Bex left the group because of a dispute with Fr. Diddy. In January 2009, Danity Kane broke up completely.
Dawn Richard is currently a member of the formation Diddy-Dirty Money , which is produced by P. Diddy.
2013–2014: reunification and second separation
The band was rumored to be making a comeback in May 2013 when four out of five band members were spotted together in Los Angeles. On August 25, 2013, the band's reunion was officially announced on their official website. After Aubrey O'Day and D. Woods were fired from P. Diddy in 2008, Aubrey decided to make a comeback. D. Woods, however, decided not to participate in the reunion and wants to continue working on her solo career. The band have decided to plan their comeback without P. Diddy. On August 25, the band made their first appearance together at the MTV Video Music Awards and announced their first new single, Lemonade . During the comeback concert at the House of Blue in December, Danity Kane sang the new song All in a Day's Work .
On May 16, 2014, the first night of the #NOFilterTour, which included 13 different cities, Fibers announced that they would leave the group after the end of the tour. Aundrea Fimbres had previously got engaged to her boyfriend and will focus on her family planning in the future. Aubrey O'Day, Shannon Bex and Dawn Richard continued as a trio. On June 8th, Fimbres made their last appearance together with Danity Kane at the LA Pride Festival.
On August 4, 2014, an argument broke out during studio recordings in Los Angeles, in which Richard gave her bandmate O'Day a blow without warning. O'Day then filed a complaint with the police for assault. On August 8, 2014, the band members O'Day and Bex announced the renewed separation from Danity Kane.
On September 24, 2014, O'Day and Bex announced that their third album, DK3, will be released on October 28, 2014, despite the group's separation .
