Anthony Ryan Leslie (born September 25, 1978 in Atlanta , Georgia ) is an American record producer, singer and songwriter. He is the founder and president of the NextSelection Lifestyle Group label and has worked with Usher , P. Diddy , Beyoncé , Cassie and Britney Spears .

biography

Ryan's parents and sister Joy Leslie are members of the American Salvation Warrior Officers. As a child, Leslie lived in many different cities in the United States. a. in Atlanta , Nashville , Richmond , Oakland , San Francisco and Stockton and so he should have moved to his fifth high school by the age of 14. Instead, he took a college entrance test and was accepted with a very good score. Ryan attended Harvard University in Boston at the age of 15 and graduated from there in 1998 at the age of 19. During this time he discovered his passion for music in the jazz group of the university " The Harvard Krokodiloes ". There he sang and learned his "vocal arrangement". Ryan even skipped school to organize concerts and talent competitions and spent more than 30 hours a week in the studio there to build up his basic knowledge.

In 2000 he met Corey Latif Williams , for whom he produced the song "Never Met a Girl". So they took part in the Teen People competition, even won and in 2001 they got a contract for Williams at Motown Records (part of Universal Motown Records ). In just 30 days, the duo produced an album for him. By the end of 2002, the money he had made at Motown ran out and Ryan went broke despite a few small part-time jobs. He moved back to live with his parents in Phoenix, and they eventually paid for $ 15,000 in studio equipment.

Spurred on by his "music lawyer" and advisor Ed Woods, a turning point came in spring 2003: Woods got him a 30-day contract through which he produced a few songs for Bad Boy Records . He met boss Sean "P. Diddy" Combs and played him a few beats and tracks that he had produced and written between 2001 and 2003. Combs was particularly impressed by Ryan's song "Hot 2 Nite" and got him a long-term contract.

In 2004 he signed a "publishing deal" with Tommy Mottola of Universal Records .

After moving back to Harlem and starting his own music production company, the NextSelection Lifestyle Group , he met Cassandra Ventura, who became known as Cassie . With her he recorded the song "Just One Night" in his own studio. His next song with her was called "Me & You". He played Tommy Mottola, who offered Cassie a record deal. That was in 2005, but it wasn't until the summer of 2006 that it became Ryan's first number 1 hit in the US.

In October 2010, after a concert in Cologne, a laptop was stolen from the back of his car. A Pulheim craftsman found this weeks later and handed it over to the police. In the meantime, Leslie had announced a reward of 1 million US dollars for the computer via YouTube. Leslie refused to pay because there were no compositions on the computer for which the finder's fee was intended. A New York court has now obliged him to pay out the finder's fee.
