The ice rink Graz-Liebenau (currently through sponsorship agreement Merkur-Eisarena ) is an ice rink in the Liebenau district of the Austrian city of Graz , state of Styria . It is operated by Stadion Graz-Liebenau GmbH and is directly adjacent to the Merkur Arena football stadium , where the SK Sturm Graz football club plays its games. The artificial ice hall is a listed building .
use
The hall has a capacity of 4,126 spectators for ice hockey games . The main stand is located on the south side of the hall and is divided into a stand made up of five sectors and a gallery made up of six sectors. There are also a few hundred seats on the ground floor and a VIP area on the north side. In addition to being used for ice hockey games, the hall is also used for other sports such as figure skating and ice stock sport . The hall is open to public ice skating at certain times.
history
The ice halls were built from 1961 to 1966 according to plans by the Ilgerl-Peneff-Walch architectural office. The roof shape was determined by the load-bearing construction with hanging ropes, which was first used in Austria at that time. In addition to the inner ice surface, the stadium has had a second covered ice surface outside the stadium since 1980. Since the spring of 2015, the new "lifting" of the arena, named after the Merkur insurance company , has been working on. The Messe Congress Graz cooperated with the Ökoprofit and was able to implement some environmentally friendly measures. The two old natural gas boilers were replaced by district heating and a high-temperature heat pump was implemented.
