The ice sports center Klagenfurt includes the Klagenfurt city hall and the Sepp-Puschnig-Halle . These are two ice rinks in Klagenfurt , Austria , which are located at the northern end of the Klagenfurt exhibition center and jointly bear the number 6 .
In winter, the halls are mainly used as game and training facilities for the EC KAC , its junior teams and various lower-class teams - but curling and figure skating are also used. The hall is also open to the public at certain times.
Klagenfurt City Hall
The Stadthalle Klagenfurt is the home of the EC KAC . It has a capacity of 5,088 spectators and has been rebuilt several times in its fifty years of existence. Among other things, a VIP club was set up and expanded several times over the years. In the summer of 2007 a video cube was also installed.
When there is no ice hockey, the hall also serves as an exhibition and event space for the trade fair. For this reason, the stands in the basement are also regularly dismantled in summer in order to increase the available area.
The hall is perceived ambiguously among fans of the EC KAC. On the one hand, it is seen as part of the club, as the team has won the majority of their 31 championship titles there, on the other hand, the spectators often complain about the lack of visibility. The supporting structure of the hall consists of frames, the supports of which, however, are set very closely so that the entire ice surface can no longer be seen from the places further back on the long sides. In addition, despite frequent modifications, parts of the infrastructure are no longer state-of-the-art.
Sepp Puschnig Hall
In 1997, the Sepp-Puschnig-Halle opened right next to the town hall with a capacity of around 500 spectators. It serves the KAC and its junior teams as a training facility. The two halls are connected to each other via a café, the timeout , and the ice master's workrooms.
Organized tournaments
Klagenfurt has already hosted international ice hockey tournaments several times:
- B World Championship 1982 and 1992 (together with Villach )
- Qualifying tournament for the 1998 and 1999 A-World Ice Hockey Championships
- second qualifying round for the 2002 Winter Olympics and 2006 Winter Olympics
- U20 Junior B World Championship 1980 and 1986
