The multi-purpose hall Eiswelle ( it. Palaonda ) named after its roof design is a sports center in Bolzano and was built in 1994 for the 1994 ice hockey world championship in Italy . It is located in the Bolzano industrial zone, near the trade fair and the Bozen-Süd stop on the Bolzano – Merano railway line . It was created on the grounds of the fair and was originally managed by the fair body. In 2010 the management passed to the city of Bolzano, which had borne a third of the construction costs.
The ice wave is used for ice hockey games , ice sport events, sports events, as a concert, congress, trade fair and other event hall. The 7,200 seats are distributed over fixed and movable grandstands.
The hall is mainly used by the city-based ice hockey club HC Bozen for training and game purposes. In November 2009, Group D of the IIHF Continental Cup 2009/10 was held in the Eiswelle , where the hosts HC Bozen and the Sheffield Steelers , HYS The Hague and HDK Stavbar Maribor also took part. The year before, the Eiswelle was the venue for Group E of the IIHF Continental Cup 2008/09 . In addition to the male hockey team, the HC Eagles Bozen, which competes in the Italian women's Serie A, also train there. The home games of Ritten Sport in the best-of-seven final of the Italian Serie A1 ice hockey championship were played in the Eiswelle in April 2010.
The South Tyrolean ice gala took place regularly in the Eiswelle, at which Carolina Kostner , Todd Eldredge and Don Jackson appeared.
Half of the games and the final of the 1998 European handball championship were played in the ice wave .
