Michael Kidd , actually Milton Greenwald , (born August 12, 1915 in Brooklyn , New York City , New York , † December 23, 2007 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American choreographer , dancer , actor and director .

Life

Michael Kidd was born in Brooklyn to the Jewish immigrant Abraham Greenwald. In 1997 he received an Honorary Oscar for his life's work and the Tony Award for Finian's Rainbow (1947), Guys and Dolls (1951), Can-Can (1954), Li'l Abner (1957) and Destry Rides Again (1960). He had his most important role as actor and dancer in 1955 in the musical Mainly Cheerful at the side of Gene Kelly .
