Wade Jeremy William Robson (born September 17, 1982 in Brisbane ) is an Australian choreographer, director and producer.

Life

Beginnings

Wade Jeremy William Robson - the youngest third child of Lynnette Joy Robson and the (deceased) Dennis Leslie Robson - won first prize in the Michael Jackson dance competition in Australia at the age of five and then met the superstar. Michael Jackson was so impressed with him that he invited him to his concert in Brisbane and has stayed in touch with him ever since. This created a professional relationship between Wade and Michael Jackson's parents. After the family moved to California , Michael helped develop Wade's talent by hiring him for his music videos Black or White , Heal the World, and Jam .

First successes

Robson achieved many successes in his youth: he improved his acting skills in the television series Picket Fences (1992) and in the film Kazaam (1996), he traveled with the pop group Quo for two years and had an appearance at the 65th Academy Awards . He also worked on star appearances at Kind's Choice Awards and wrote hits for boy bands like Immature and Youngstown. At 12, he attended the best dance schools in Los Angeles and founded his own dance studio, where he also wrote and produced songs. Despite all the success, he wanted to finish his education first, which he did.

Encounter with Britney Spears

A big turn in his life was his meeting with Britney Spears . Robson was 17 years old and choreographed her show at the 1999 Video Music Awards and 1999 European Music Awards . He co-organized her 1999-2000 world tour and became her choreographer for her two Pepsi commercials. Britney Spears hired Robson as her choreographer for her "Dream within 'an Dream Tour", which started in 2001.

Cooperation with N'Sync

The boy band N'Sync noticed him and they hired him as a choreographer for their No Strings Attached Tour 2000, the Pop Odyssey Tour 2001 and several Grammy and Billboard Awards appearances. These collaborations also expanded to include music videos: Robson worked on Britney Spears' Pop by N'Sync and I'm a Slave 4 U.

Alleged abuse against Michael Jackson

In May 2012, Robson charged that Michael Jackson sexually abused him for seven years and that he collapsed as a result in 2012. Robson had lived on Jackson's Neverland Ranch for a while as a teenager . In a trial in 2005, however, he testified under oath that the pop star had never touched him. According to Jackson attorney Weitzman, Robson repeated this in several interviews, which is why the lawsuit he filed for compensation from Michael Jackson's estate will probably not be successful. In 2017, Robson's lawsuit for abuse was dismissed. In recorded interrogations, Robson's mother testified until 2016 that he had never been alone with Jackson at Neverland until 1993.

Projects

Robson had his own show on MTV , The Wade Robson Project , a talent show for hip-hop dancers that became a huge hit. He used the experience he had with it for a new Disney musical. In 2007, Robson was choreographer for American Idols LIVE! Tour and at the dance show So You Think You Can Dance? .

In 2019, a documentary appeared about his child abuse allegations against Michael Jackson called Leaving Neverland . The film premiered on January 25, 2019 at the Sundance Film Festival .

Awards

On September 8, 2007, Robson won an Emmy for choreography Ramalama (Bang Bang) , a group dance performed in season 2 of So You Think You Can Dance? . He also won the Emmy a year later in the same category for the jazz dance choreography The Hummingbird by Jamie Goodwin and Hokuto Konishi ( Hok ).
