Bone Thugs-N-Harmony is an American hip hop group. The Cleveland based crew consists of Krayzie , Wish, Bizzy , Layzie and Flesh-N-Bone.
history
In 1992 the group began to appear publicly as BONE Enterprise. They produced the album Faces of Death , which was heavily influenced by old-school hip-hop . The group eventually tried to get a contract with a larger label and turned to Eazy-E , the owner of Ruthless Records . After lengthy negotiations their first EP Creepin on ah Come Up was released by Ruthless in 1994 . The released singles Foe tha Luv of $ and Thuggish Ruggish Bone achieved multiple platinum status. The EP itself made it to twelfth place on the Billboard charts. A total of around two million copies of this record were sold.
In 1995 Eazy-E died of the consequences of his AIDS illness. Shortly thereafter, the group released their second album E. 1999 Eternal . Among other things, the single Crossroads was released from the album . The accompanying remix, Tha Crossroads , was number one on the Billboard charts for eight weeks. The album was also able to reach the top position on the Billboard charts. In 1996 Bone Thugs-N-Harmony won the Grammy for “Best Rap Performance by Duo or Group”.
The group achieved their success on the one hand through their original style of harmonious soul singing and very fast rap. Her religious and spiritual texts were very well received in the mainstream US market. Encouraged by the success and following the example of many other successful rappers, they founded their own label ( Mo Thugs Records ) to produce other artists.
Bone Thugs-N-Harmony continued to publish on Ruthless. The double album Art of War was produced by Eazy-Es's widow Tomica Wright. Each of the four band members had a solo track on the record. They continued their mix of styles from harmonious songs and aggressive raps. Tupac Shakur appeared as a guest on the album . The single releases still reached platinum status ( Look Into My Eyes ) or Gold ( If I Could Teach The World ) but could no longer build on the outstanding financial success of the first album.
Due to disputes with Ruthless and the work on their own label, the crew was not artistically active in the following years, so rumors arose that they had split up. Ruthless released a best-of album, The Collection Vol. 1 , which fueled the rumors.
It wasn't until 2000 that the group released a new record: BTNHResurrection reached second place in the US charts and was also internationally successful. Mo Thugs, which after various internal disputes was now wholly owned by Layzie Bone, produced the third record in June 2000: The Mothership .
Eventually the problems with ruthless escalated. The group members felt cheated, canceled the contract with the label at short notice and reported the company. They founded a new record company together, Bone Thug Records, but failed to find a distribution partner. So they withdrew the charges against Ruthless, came to an agreement with Tomica Wright, and were there again under contract. The 2002 released album Thug World Order no longer achieved the success of previous releases. Flesh was in jail and only featured on the album through brief skits recorded over the phone . Bizzy Bone had left Bone Thugs-N-Harmony due to various disputes.
In 2007 Bone Thugs-N-Harmony (excluding Bizzy & Flesh) released the album Strength & Loyalty , which sold 119,000 units in the first week. The group reached number 2 on the Billboard charts.
On July 13, 2008, Flesh-N-Bone was released from prison and has returned to Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. Just like Bizzy Bone, who got his quarrel with Krayzie Bone out of the world, he has returned to record the reunion album "Uni5: The Worlds Enemy", in which all five group members are involved for the first time in ten years.
