Sir Mix-a-Lot
Anthony Ray (born August 12, 1963 in Seattle ), known as Sir Mix-a-Lot , is an American rapper and music producer .
Career
Ray created his very own kind of hip-hop in the late 1980s and 1990s , influenced by funk and electro music , as well as Miami Bass and the German band Kraftwerk . His lyrics are often about sexual things, but recently also about politics. His biggest success so far was with the single Baby Got Back (1991). The song was number 1 on the US charts for five weeks in 1992 and earned it a Grammy for Best Rap Solo Performance in 1993 . It is often used in comedies because of its deliberately exaggerated sexist content. The beginning of the song is particularly popular because it suddenly starts with the phrase “I like big butts!”, Which creates a fun surprise effect. An example of this is Scary Movie 4 , where initially only a few single-celled cells are shown (as a parody of the beginning of War of the Worlds ), which, however, in contrast to the original, start to celebrate a wild party with the beginning of the song, at which some single-celled ladies celebrate their Show breasts.
Ray was and is a huge influence on the entire West Coast hip-hop scene.
