Arrested Development (band)

Arrested Development is a progressive hip-hop group from the USA that came together in 1989 with the aim of offering a positive, Afrocentric alternative to gangsta rap, which was popular at the time . Founding members were speech and DJ headliners .

history

After more than three years of work, Arrested Development got a record deal and named the first album 3 Years, 5 Months & 2 Days in the Life of… . For this it was given four times platinum in the USA and a gold record in the UK . The tracks Tennessee , People Everyday and Mr. Wendal included on the album became top ten hits in the United States. Arrested Development was awarded for Tennessee the Grammy for best rap performance of a group and the award for best new artist. The music magazine Rolling Stone named the formation as band of the year in the same year.

The 1993 album Unplugged did not reach the sales figures of its predecessor, but was honored with gold in the United States. The Zingalamaduni , published in 1994, also had only moderate success. Critics' opinions were divided and sales were sluggish. In the United Kingdom, Arrested Development was able to receive a silver record for this.

After the breakup in 1996, Speech released a solo album, which also had little success. Another member of Arrested Development, Dionne Farris, released the solo album Wild Seed - Wild Flower in 1994 , which included the hit single I Know and sold well.

In 1999 the group got back together and 5 more albums and two EPs followed.
