Lyle Lovett
Lyle Pearce Lovett [ laɪl ˈlʌvɪt ] (born November 1, 1957 in Klein , Texas ) is an American country musician and actor .
Life
His great-great-grandfather, Adam Klein , was one of the founding fathers of Klein, Texas, where Lyle Lovett was born and still lives. Lovett attended Texas A&M University and received a degree in German Language and Literature and Journalism .
He began his musical career as a songwriter . In 1986 he was offered a contract with the major label MCA Records , whereupon he released his debut album in the same year. Together with Dwight Yoakam , Steve Earle , kd lang , Robert Earl Keen , with whom he became friends during his studies, and others, he was part of a commercially successful, but less mainstream- oriented country movement in the late 1980s. In addition to traditional country, elements of folk , jazz , swing , blues and gospel can be found in his music.
In 1989 he won a Grammy for Best Male Country Vocal Performance ( Best Male Country Vocal Performance ).
On June 25, 1993, he married the actress Julia Roberts , from whom he divorced on March 22, 1995. He has lived with his girlfriend April since 1999. On March 28, 2002, he was run down by a bull on his uncle's farm in Klein while he was trying to help his uncle, who in turn had been attacked by the cop. Despite serious injuries, he recovered within six months and went on tour again in the summer of 2003.
To date, Lovett has acted in twelve TV or feature films, including four by director Robert Altman . In Short Cuts he played the pastry chef Andy Bitkover.
