Location description

The church is located on a hill on the northern outskirts. The church is surrounded by a cemetery with a surrounding wall. The cemetery portal has round arched battlements.

history

According to a document dated May 8, 1350, Weinsteig was at that time a vicariate of the Niederhollabrunn mother parish with full parish rights. The church should have existed before. It was built as a fortified church on a hill similar to a Hausberg in the middle of a former swamp. The core of the church is Romanesque . The current Gothic building was built in the 14th century and changed to Baroque style in 1672 . During the Reformation the church was Protestant between 1570 and 1640 . After that it became a branch church of the Niederhollabrunn parish again. After the founding of the parish Karnabrunn in 1686, it was assigned to it. A restoration took place in 1956.

architecture

Church exterior

Portal view

The church is a simple Gothic hall with an equally wide, polygonal choir from the 14th century. The west facade is crowned by a triangular gable, which is separated from the facade by an eaves cornice. The portal was composed of different parts. There are fluted pilasters on the side, parts of a grave inscription ("Christoph Daxempeckh 1568") and stone putti are in place of an entablature . There are buttresses on the north side of the nave , which are probably younger than the nave. The choir with a 5/8 end is structured by Gothic buttresses. A church tower from the 17th century is attached to the south side of the nave. It has a square floor plan. The sound windows are rounded. Above it is a tent roof that dates from the 19th and 20th centuries. A single-storey sacristy extension with a slate roof adjoins the choir to the south .

Church interior

The three-bay nave is vaulted with a groin . The vault dates from the third quarter of the 17th century. It rests on pilasters with entablature. In the west of the nave is the organ gallery, which is supported by Tuscan columns. It is arched under the spine. The triumphal arch is rounded and strongly drawn in. The one-bay choir is vaulted with ribs . The vault dates from the 14th century and has disc-shaped keystones. The portal in the south wall of the choir has an early Baroque shape and a segmented arched gable. This is crowned by balls and an obelisk. In the north wall of the choir there is a sacrament niche with tracery. The sacristy is barrel-vaulted with stitch caps .

Furnishing

The furnishings are baroque. The high altar was erected at the end of the 17th century. It consists of a column retable with cranked entablature. There are veil boards on the side . The top has a blown gable. The altarpiece shows the meeting of St. Peter with St. Paul. The picture was painted in the 19th century. The top picture shows the heart of Jesus . In between there is a baroque picture depicting St. Michael weighing souls. The console figures represent the saints Leopold , Katharina , Ludwig and Anna .

The construction of the side altars from the end of the 17th century corresponds to that of the high altar. The altarpiece on the left side altar shows the Assumption of Mary . The baby Jesus is shown in the top picture. The baroque console figures represent Saints John and John the Baptist , as well as Saints Apollonia and Barbara . Angels are on the gable.

The altarpiece on the right side altar shows St. Francis Xavier . In the top picture is God the Father shown. The side console figures represent St. Charles Borromeo , St. Francisco de Borja , as well as St. Sebastian and Rochus . St. Catherine may be depicted on the gable.

In the church there is a baroque votive picture showing the saints Leonhard and Wendelin . In the choir there is a red marble tombstone with an inscription and coat of arms, as well as a scroll frame. The inscription reads "Pernstorffer 1590."

organ

The parapet organ was built in 1781 by organ builder Josef Silberbauer . It was built as a single manual parapet organ with six registers. The case is marbled. The organ was restored in the 2010s.
