AIAS - Students against Blood Cancer is a non-profit student initiative. The association carries out educational work about blood cancer throughout Germany and carries out registration campaigns to attract potential stem cell donors .

There are 29 local associations across Germany that have registered over 46,000 students for the DKMS donor database since 2013 and have won over 150 stem cell donors. Many associations are run by former leukemia patients or stem cell donors.

history

In 2013 the first association, AIAS Munich eV, was founded by the student Katharina Zech after she herself saved the life of the wife of the American boxer Roberto Guerrero as a stem cell donor .

AIAS has been active throughout Germany since 2015, with the establishment of locations in Aachen , Berlin , Bochum , Dresden , Frankfurt am Main , Freiburg , Hamburg , Hanover , Jena , Leipzig and Stuttgart .

In 2016 the locations in Cologne , Magdeburg , Passau and Wuppertal were added. In the same year AIAS Dresden set a world record with 2549 registered students in one day.

The association AIAS Deutschland eV was founded in 2017 , and university groups were founded in Coburg , Erlangen - Nuremberg , Essen , Halle (Saale) , Heidelberg , Regensburg , Tübingen and Würzburg , and in 2018 and 2019 in Bonn , Göttingen , Karlsruhe , Konstanz and Saarbrücken .

AIAS is an official partner of DKMS and the José Carreras Leukemia Foundation . The local associations also enter into their own regional partnerships.
