You oughta know
You Oughta Know was released as a single on August 5, 1995. The song peaked at number 22 in the UK and stayed on the charts for seven weeks. The single also won the Grammy Awards for Best Female Vocal Performance - Rock and Best Rock Song. The song, according to Morissette, is a settlement of a relationship that has gone wrong. The ex-partner, who is described here, quickly looked for a new partner after a ended relationship in which he was obviously not satisfied, who is also described in the song. Jealousy is also involved, the old partner is no longer wanted, but shouldn't enter into a new relationship either. The refrain describes feelings of revenge and also the state of the "abandoned beloved". In 2009, You Oughta Know was covered by Britney Spears on their " The Circus Starring: Britney Spears " tour, but removed from the setlist after a few shows.
