David Michael Navarro (born June 7, 1967 in Santa Monica , California ) is an American guitarist and drummer who was a member of the band Red Hot Chili Peppers and co-founded Jane's Addiction .

Life

Navarro has been the lead guitarist for the North American alternative band Jane's Addiction since 1985 . From 1994 to 1997 he replaced John Frusciante with the Red Hot Chili Peppers . During this time the album One Hot Minute was created . He was also offered to replace Izzy Stradlin at Guns N 'Roses , but this did not materialize. After Slash left Guns N 'Roses, Dave Navarro was again in talks for his successor, and there were probably some joint sessions with Axl Rose . According to her own admission, this was a great addiction to Jane-Fan and supported them in their initial phase. In 2001 he released his first and so far only solo album Trust No One on which he also appeared for the first time as a singer. On September 1, 2006, the debut album (ONe) of his new band The Panic Channel was released. In 2008 Jane's Addiction reunited and toured the US with Nine Inch Nails . He is currently the host of his own radio show called Dark Matter on Moheak Radio and writes a column for Penthouse magazine . He is also working on a TV format called "Deeper with Dave Navarro".

Influences

Navarro developed his guitar style through countless hours of practice as a teenager. His key experience, how he got to the guitar, according to him, was that one afternoon while skateboarding in a dry swimming pool he heard a Hendrix song from the music system there and quickly knew that he wanted to do that too. Navarro gives Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page as the main influences . But he has dealt with many guitarists, in a lesson video he also mentions Robert Smith from The Cure, for example .

All in all, Dave Navarro can be counted among a group of guitarists who have developed their own sound and style from the 60 / 70s styles of Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin or Deep Purple . B. also Tom Morello ( Rage Against the Machine ), John Frusciante ( Red Hot Chili Peppers ) or Jack White ( The White Stripes ).
