Life

McKagan was born the youngest of eight children to parents Elmer and Alice Marie McKagan. He began playing drums in his first band, Fastbacks, in Seattle at the age of 16 . In the next few years he also played bass and guitar in other bands such as 10 Minute Warning , Loaded , The Racketeers , Neurotic Outsiders and The Gentlemen .

From 1985 to 1997 he was the bass player with Guns N 'Roses.

In 1993 McKagan released his solo album Believe In Me and then went on tour. In 1994, McKagan narrowly escaped death from acute pancreatitis after his pancreas was damaged from years of excessive alcohol and drug use.

From April 2002 he played bass in the band Velvet Revolver , together with his former Guns-N'-Roses colleagues Slash and Matt Sorum as well as Scott Weiland , the former frontman of the Stone Temple Pilots , and Dave Kushner (formerly Wasted Youth ). He could also be heard together with his ex-bandmate from Guns N 'Roses, Izzy Stradlin , on the track Strange Religion on the Mark Lanegan album Bubblegum .

In 2002, his band Duff McKagan's Loaded debut album entitled Dark Days was released. Due to his activities with Velvet Revolver, this band paused until the EP Wasted Heart in 2008 and the album Sick in 2009 . In 2010 he also played in the rock band Jane's Addiction .

In the spring of 2008, the Fender company had offered the Duff McKagan signature bass model , which is called Duff McKagan P Bass .

McKagan has been a member of Guns N 'Roses again since 2016. Since then he has been on the stages of the Not In This Lifetime World Tour with the band around the world - almost with the original line-up .
