Melissa Reese (born March 1, 1985 in Seattle , Washington ) is an American musician. She has been a member of the hard rock band Guns n 'Roses since the start of the “Not In This Lifetime… Tour” in 2016 . She is also known for her collaborations with Bryan "Brain" Mantia .

Career

Reese was born in Seattle, Washington and is the youngest of three children from households of Chinese, Spanish, Japanese, Filipino, Irish, Scottish, and Danish ancestry. At the age of four she started playing the piano and singing. At the age of twelve she began composing her own music on the piano, after which she was discovered at the age of 13 by the musician Tom Whitlock, who enabled her to enter the music industry. At the age of 17 she started teaching herself Pro Tools , Reason and Logic Pro and thus started producing her own music. She attended Roosevelt High School, where she sang. She also won an Outstanding Solo Musician Award at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival during her high school years. After graduating from school, she started experimenting with recordings and instruments.

In her early twenties, she moved to Los Angeles to study music.

Career

In 2007 she released her first EP under the name Lissa in cooperation with Bryan "Brain" Mantia and Pete Scaturro, which bore the same name. Three songs from the EP were then used in various television programs. In the following years Reese a. a. with the musicians Bootsy Collins , Chuck D , Vanessa Carlton , Goapele, Drumma Boy and Taylor Swift .

Reese is also working on various projects with Mantia, with whom she founded the producer team Brain and Melissa. They published u. a. in 2010 together with the musician Buckethead several CDs with the titles Kind Regards and Best Regards , produced the soundtrack for projects / video games such as Infamous 2 , PlayStation Home , ModNation Racers , Twisted Metal , Fantasia: Music Evolved and Infamous: Second Son . They also made films and commercials, etc. a. Detention , Bodied with film director Joseph Kahn and worked on several remix versions of the songs from the Guns n 'Roses album Chinese Democracy , which were originally intended for a planned remix album by the band. The duo played two NBA halftime shows in Houston and Los Angeles in November 2017, where they performed a cover version of the song Do You Love Me? von Kiss and two of the aforementioned remix versions.

In March 2016, Reese joined the band Guns n 'Roses as an official member, replacing Chris Pitman . Your tasks there are playing synthesizers, programming all electronic sounds / samples used live and singing background vocals. She had to learn and program fifty songs by the time the tour started in April 2016. That took around 15 hours of work during this period. Reese described her joining by saying that the band had already noticed her as a producer and had known many people working for the band. The rather spontaneous idea became reality after a telephone approval by Axl Rose and Bryan Mantia .
