G N 'R Lies (English for: " G N' R Lügen ") is the second studio album by the US hard rock band Guns n 'Roses . Half of it consists of hard rock pieces recorded in the studio in 1986 and accompanied by a live audience, the other half consists of acoustic numbers recorded in 1988 without the typical electric guitar sounds of the band.

background

The record included the four tracks from the 1986 limited edition EP Live?! * @ Like a Suicide and new song material. Originally the album Lies! The Sex, the Drugs, the Violence, the Shocking Truth are called, which is said to have been too long for the record company .

The album was heavily criticized for the song One in a Million , which contains racist and homophobic content. The text line " ... or spread some fucking disease ", referring to migrants and homosexuals concerns and probably with the on AIDS is alluded, made sure that Guns n 'Roses not a charity organization concert Gay Men's Health Crisis participate were allowed to. Rose felt misunderstood and stated in an interview with Rolling Stone that he was not homophobic, but only "proheterosexual", as he was almost raped by a man once.

You're Crazy already appeared on the debut album Appetite for Destruction , but on G N 'R Lies again in an acoustic version. Nice Boys is a cover version of the rose tattoo classic; Mama Kin was originally written and recorded by Aerosmith .

reception

G N 'R Lies reached the Top 5 of the US Billboard - Charts . The band has thus achieved the rare feat of being represented in the top 5 of the album charts with two albums at the same time. They should succeed again with the Use Your Illusion albums. In Germany the album reached number 37 in the album charts. Patience , the album's only single release, reached number four on the Billboard charts .

Videos

The video Patience is the only video from the G-N'-R-Lies album. According to the gentle atmosphere of the song, the music video is also leisurely. The band is shown recording the song in a tapestry-decorated recording studio. Between the studio pictures there are scenes with the band members from a hotel. One scene shows Slash, who is relaxing on the bed in the hotel room, playing with a snake and a scantily clad woman joins him. The scene is varied in the further course of the video in that Slash continues to play with his snake while several scantily clad women appear and disappear one after the other at the bed, to which Slash pays no attention. In this video you can see Axl Rose watching the music video for Welcome to the Jungle on TV . Allegedly, the video also contains scenes from Aerosmith concerts that Guns n 'Roses were on tour with at the time.
