You Could Be Mine (English for: " You could be mine ") is a song by the American hard rock band Guns N 'Roses . It appeared on the second part of the doublerelease Use Your Illusion II and was extracted from it as the first single before its release in June 1991. The piece reached high chart positions in Europe and the US, including number 3 in the UK and number 5 in Germany ,and number29 in the US. The song was selected for the soundtrack of Terminator 2 - Judgment Day , and it was featured in an elaborate music video the main actor of the film Arnold Schwarzenegger shot.

background

The piece was not originally written for Terminator 2 , but rather as part of the first pre-production session of Appetite for Destruction , as Slash wrote in his autobiography.

However, there were references to Guns N 'Roses in the film, so the friend of the main character John Connor wears a shirt from the band. So it made sense that the band was asked by director James Cameron for the title song, which was then also played in the film. Originally I Wanna Be Sedated by the Ramones provided at this point in the script. Schwarzenegger also appeared in the music video in return. The play is also played in the film Terminator: Salvation .

The line of text from You Could Be Mine , " With your bitch slap rappin 'and your cocaine tongue you get nothin' done ", was already printed in the booklet of Appetite for Destruction - the line " Ain't it fun " was subsequently added , which appeared in Use Your Illusion , to a song on The Spaghetti Incident .

reception

Chris True wrote on Allmusic : "While later singles from the sprawling Use Your Illusions would garner more attention and sales," You Could Be Mine "is an interesting and overlooked footnote in the history of Guns N Roses. Not only was it the first real preview of the upcoming Use Your Illusion set, but it was the first time that Guns didn't seem dangerous. Musically, "You Could Be Mine" is sort of an empty threat. Its over processed bass and meandering drum intro are meant to add a bit of tension, but it ends up sounding half baked. " ("Though the singles that were later dropped from the Use Your Illusion albums received more exposure and sales, 'You Could Be Mine' is an interesting and often overlooked footnote in Guns N Roses history. It wasn't just the first taste of it the upcoming Use Your Illusion album, but also the first time that the Guns didn't look dangerous. Musically, 'You Could Be Mine' is like an empty threat. The overly post-processed bass and the far-reaching drum intro should probably build up a kind of tension, but in the end it sounds half-baked. ")
