Izzy Stradlin (2012)

Izzy Stradlin (* 8. April 1962 as Jeffrey Dean Isbell in Lafayette , Indiana ) is an American musician. He is a founding member and former guitarist of the rock band Guns N 'Roses .

Life

Stradlin grew up in Lafayette , Indiana . Shortly after graduating from high school , he moved to Los Angeles, where he soon joined a band called The Naughty Women , then as a drummer. He later left them and joined a few other bands. At that time he first traded his drums for bass and then switched to guitar - he taught himself to play. With his old high school friend Axl Rose , he founded Hollywood Rose . At some point Hollywood Rose also fell apart; Izzy Stradlin went to a band called London , and Axl Rose joined the LA Guns . Hollywood Rose were later revived. In March 1985, Guns N 'Roses was founded , a merger of Hollywood Rose and the LA Guns. Stradlin was not only a rhythm guitarist there, but also played a key role in the songwriting. Among other things, Patience comes from him.

On November 7, 1991, he left Guns N 'Roses, among other things because of differences over the Use-Your-Illusion tour - Stradlin allegedly had no desire to go on a world tour with concerts in huge arenas and feared relapsing on tour after he had just got his heroin addiction under control. However, he returned to the stage in 1993 for five concerts after his successor Gilby Clarke broke his hand.

This was followed by a few solo albums, in which, among others, Guns-N'-Roses bassist Duff McKagan and Rick Richards ( The Georgia Satellites ) participated. In 1992 he released the debut album of the same name with his newly formed band Izzy Stradlin and the Ju Ju Hounds and in the following year the live album Izzy Stradlin and the Ju Ju Hounds Live .

From 1998 to 2010 he released a total of ten solo albums, none of which had any notable success.

In 2002 Stradlin was also planned as a guitarist when founding Velvet Revolver , but he left there in the same year. Once again it played a role that he did not believe that he was up to the rigors of a major tour.

On the Guns-N'-Roses tours in 2006 and 2012, however, there were again some guest appearances, including in Austria at Nova Rock 2006 or in Mallorca 2012. He also became a member of Guns N 'Roses in the Rock and Roll Hall in 2012 of Fame invited. He did not appear at the inauguration ceremony, but he thanked the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the rest of the band members and his fans for the honor via Duff McKagan's Seattle Weekly blog. In November of the same year, Stradlin released the single Baby Rann on iTunes and the accompanying music video on YouTube .

In February 2016 he announced on Twitter that he was not involved in the upcoming " Guns N 'Roses " reunion.
