Izzy Stradlin and the Ju Ju Hounds is the first studio album by Izzy Stradlin , the former guitarist and founding member of Guns n 'Roses . In contrast to future albums by the artist, it was released under the band name of the same name Izzy Stradlin and the Ju Ju Hounds .

background

By his own testimony Izzy began in December 1991 after a break after leaving at Guns N 'Roses with the songwriting . He met an old friend Jimmy Ashhurst, they put a band together, started rehearsing, wrote songs and went to the studio. The album was recorded and mixed at Total Access Studios , Chicago Recording Company Studios, Medley Recording Studios, and Easy Sound Recording Studios from February to July 1992 . First the recordings took place in Los Angeles . When there were riots there in April 1992, however, the recordings were continued in Chicago . It was produced by Eddie Ashworth and Izzy Stradlin themselves, with the exception of the title Take a Look at That Guy , which was produced by Alan Niven and Ashworth.

style

Achim Karstens wrote in Rock Hard that the album was "more stones than the stones themselves were in the last 15 years". Markus Baro said in Break Out that the album gave the impression of a solo album by Keith Richards , who had brought the band The Black Crowes, reinforced by Rick Richards (ex- The Georgia Satellites ), into the studio. In addition to the "bony stones-heavy riffs ", he made out southern melancholy, reggae , punk and gospel echoes.

Receptions

Entertainment Weekly rated Izzy Stradlin and the Ju Ju Hounds with a B and compared it with works of the Rolling Stones. Stephen Thomas Erlewine from Allmusic wrote that it was only "half the time" great, but it was "good enough for a debut album" and "well done" and awarded 4.5 out of five stars. Achim Karstens was disappointed by the songs Bucket O'Trouble and Train Tracks , even by Pressure Drop , which waschosen for the first single release, which "completely uninspired and without any highlights" left a bad impression. He liked the "quieter, melancholy numbers like Time Gone By , Shuffle It All , How Will It Go and Come on Now Inside ", which apparently had a higher weight with eight out of ten possible points. Markus Baro summed up that it was "[e] a simple, sluggish album which, after listening to it several times, unfolds quite considerable charms". The industry magazine Musikmarkt said: "The album Izzy Stradlin And The Ju Ju Hounds is proving to be a successful debut."

Charts
