Mikey Dread

Mikey Dread (born January 1, 1954 , Port Antonio , Jamaica , † March 15, 2008 in Connecticut ) was a Jamaican singer and producer.

During his school days at Titchfield High School, he ran the only student radio station in Jamaica. After graduating from college, he worked for the Jamaican radio JBC in Kingston. There he convinced the program management to grant him his own program between midnight and four in the morning, called "Dread At The Controls", which played exclusively Jamaican music.

His radio show quickly became popular, but management found his style too wild and Mikey resigned in 1979. At that time he had already worked on his first album, "Dread at the Controls", on Trojan Records in the UK.

Then Mikey Dread worked as a producer and singer, u. a. with King Tubby , Carlton Patterson and the English punk band The Clash , with whom he toured all over the world and which had a lot of influence on the album " Sandinista! "

After attending the National Broadcasting School in the UK, Mikey was given the role of narrator in the television documentary "Deep Roots Music," which aired in 1982. Subsequently, he received a presenter position in the series "Rockers Roadshow".

In the early 1990s, Mikey moved to Miami to become program director for the Caribbean Satellite Network.

Mikey Dread, actually Michael Campbell, died of a brain tumor in the US state of Connecticut at the age of 54.
