Can't Stop is a song by the US rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers from the 2002 album By the Way . It is the seventh track on the album and was released as the third single on January 24, 2003 .
composition
The song is in 4/4 time and was written in the keys of E minor and G major . Frusciantes main riff , in which the influence of funk is clearly evident, is characteristic of the entire structure . In the chorus, the repetitive riff of the verse is resolved by playing whole chords . After two verses and choruses as well as the following bridge, Frusciante uses excessive so-called bendings in the solo , which are distorted with a fuzz effect .
The emphasis on the words is the perfect example of how the Red Hot Chili Peppers treat the lyrics as a rhythmic unit, combining Kiedi's rap with rock.
Music video
For the music video of the single, director Mark Romanek was inspired by Erwin Wurm . In the music video you can see how the band members perform seemingly incoherent or abstract activities and you orientate yourself according to the colors orange / white or silver.
At the beginning of the video, the camera moves through a yellow tube until the song's intro ends. Then the four band members jog through a hall, each with a lamp attached to their back. Between the scenes in which the band plays together on a transparent stage, the musicians carry out their random activities with certain objects. These include B. singing in garbage cans, using a camping tent as a piece of clothing or dancing with a bucket on your head.
In certain scenes in the video, you can see Frusciante playing Toronado on an orange Fender and a silver Fender Custom Shop Stratocaster , although he is otherwise known for exclusively using vintage guitars . In an interview, however, he later explained that the guitars were only used because of their color in order to better integrate them into the overall picture of the video.
