Out in LA is a compilation of demo , remix , and live versions of the Red Hot Chili Peppers that was released on November 1, 1994. The demos are mostly from the first two albums by The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Freaky Styley .

useful information

The band had separated from their former record label EMI and was under contract with Warner Bros. Records . The album is an exploitation of archive material by EMI. It contains recordings that go back to the early days of the band's history in the early 1980s and was supplemented by liner notes by Kiedis and Flea. The album title is also the name of a song from the 1984 debut album .

The package, which was actually only intended for fans, surprisingly reached number 82 on the US Billboard 200 after three years without an album in the charts . In Great Britain the album was at number 61 for a week and at number 37 in Switzerland .

reception

Stephen Thomas Erlewine from Allmusic described the album as a "lukewarm collection of remixes and obscurities" that would only be of interest to die-hard fans of the band, even if their patience was put to the test because of the long playing time. Marcus Schleutermann from Rock Hard describes the "variants of the known pieces" as "without exception worse than the original versions" and the six "new" songs are mostly "almost half-minute joke numbers", which "not without reason on none Album released ”.
