reception
Alexander Cordas sees a “more positive basic tendency” on laut.de than in previous albums and says “The change in thinking results in a more subdued emotionality, which does not mean, however, that she is content with superficialities.” Morissette could “conflict now too to gain positive sides where she was previously just frustrated and angry. ”He rates her unconventionality positively and that the“ cliché ballad is not in sight ”. Alanis "avoided the shallow tones on most of the tracks" and "freed himself from the shackles of the past". The once "angry young lady from" Jagged Little Pill "times has given way to a self-confident woman who seems to have found her peace".
Stephen Thomas Erlewine says in the All Music Guide , "[...] she's certainly never recorded an album where she seems so in love and at peace as she has with her fourth album, So-Called Chaos." (... she certainly never has an album recorded, in which she appears as in love as her fourth album, So - called Chaos.) "[...] but as an overall record, it's her most satisfying since her blockbuster breakthrough." (All in all, it's her best album since her breakthrough)
In the culture magazine Kulturnews it is said “[...] with her fourth album she can easily rock with the first guard again. [...] it's wilder and less thought-provoking than the last two records. " Q Magazine judged:" The most solid collection of AOR (Adult Oriented Rock) you're likely to encounter this year. " which you will encounter this year.) and rated it with "3 out of 5 stars".
