Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie is published on 3 November 1998 the fourth studio album from Alanis Morissette . It was very successful worldwide and achieved platinum status in many countries, but did not achieve the commercial success of its predecessor, Jagged Little Pill . The title means something like "Suspected former infatuation junkie".

style

On Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie , Morissette worked with more complex song structures than before, deviating from the verse-chorus scheme.

Emergence

After the world tour of Jagged Little Pill , Morissette went on a trip to India with her mother, family members and friends to gain new strength. Here she found the inspiration for the piece Baba ( Hindi : father). The song Thank U , the album's most successful single, was also written after this trip. It therefore contains the line: "Thank you India".

reception

Stephen Thomas Erlewine from Allmusic called Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie the "richer" record compared to its predecessor, even if it is not so "accessible" and does not help to gain new fans. The album contains "new musical ideas and different tonal textures ". He awarded four out of five stars. The same rating was given in Rolling Stone . Rob Sheffield called Morissette a “megastar who knows how to translate his bitterness into dynamic rock 'n' roll. It's her party and she will thank India if she wants to. "
