Jonas Staugaitis
May 20, 1868 in Omentiškiai , Vilkaviškis District , Russian Empire ; † January 18, 1952 in Kaunas , Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic ) was the fourth President of the Republic of Lithuania during the coup in December 1926. Formally, he held this office for one Day as chairman of the Lithuanian Seimas and resigned after the completion of the coup .
Jonas Staugaitis (*Life
From 1887 to 1893 he studied medicine at the University of Warsaw . In 1919 he was elected to the Lithuanian Parliament (Seimas) as a member of the Peasant People's Party. On June 2, 1926, he was elected chairman of the Seimas.
He is buried in the Petrašiūnai cemetery in Kaunas.
