Havoc and Bright Lights is the eighth studio album by the Canadian - American singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette . It was released in August 2012.

Emergence

Havoc and Bright Lights is Morissette's first album in four years and the first on the new Collective Sounds label after leaving Maverick Records . It was produced by Guy Sigsworth and Joe Chiccarelli . Work on it began in the summer of 2011, and by the fall 31 songs had been completed, as Morissette said at the American Music Awards . The recordings for the album took place in Morissette's living room, the singer said in an interview. This is due to the fact that Morrisette was still breastfeeding her son, who was born in December 2010.

reception

Stephen Thomas Erlewine of the website Allmusic .com wrote Morissette is on the album in "sunny disposition". The record is like an “afternoon nap or a warm bath”: “music for when you know you're right where you want to be”, “music when you know that you are exactly where you belong”. Sarah Mikoleizik, who reviewed the album for Focus , was less enthusiastic : “Most of the songs sound as if someone tried to frantically spice up their old hits, for example with a disco beat. Unfortunately, this concept doesn't work at all. Basically, it's a good thing to have a distinctive voice. For Alanis Morissette, however, it seems to be more of a disadvantage. Because no matter how much a song sounds like funk or disco in the beginning, as soon as she starts singing, the fresh paint is gone. And when it comes to the chorus at the latest, it not only sounds like every other track on the record, but also like every other track Alanis has ever released. In short: "Havoc and Bright Lights" does not work. "

Video clip

In 2012, Alanis Morissette shot a video clip for her song Guardian in the German capital of Berlin , which is heavily based on the 1987 feature film Der Himmel über Berlin by director Wim Wenders . On bild.de in July 2012, Morissette said: “With the video, I take my hat off to Wim Wenders' film. It is celebrating its 25th anniversary. "
