Glen Ballard
Glen Ballard (born May 1, 1953 in Natchez , Mississippi ) is an American music producer .
Career
Glen Ballard learned to play the piano in his childhood and discovered his love for composing at an early age. After graduating from college, he moved to Los Angeles at the age of 22 and began working as Elton John's errand boy . He came into contact with his band and made his first successful compositions for Kiki Dee . In 1978 he got a contract with MCA as a songwriter. Finally he made contact with successful producers such as Richard Perry and Quincy Jones , who supported him significantly. He wrote and produced for the Pointer Sisters , George Benson and James Ingram , among others . His breakthrough came in 1984 with the number-two hit All I Need by Jack Wagner , which he co-produced and co-composed has. The debut album of the same name and the follow- up album Lighting Up the Night by Wagner were also among his first complete album productions. Countless other participations in successful publications followed. Co- written with Siedah Garrett , Man in the Mirror became a number one hit for Michael Jackson in 1988 and is one of his best-known single hits. Siedah Garrett also sang the song The Places You Find Love with Chaka Khan in 1989 , for which Ballard received his first Grammy (for the instrumental arrangement).
From 1990 onwards some extremely successful partnerships followed, which brought the respective artists the big breakthrough. That year he produced the debut album of the same name for Wilson Phillips , which sold over five million times in the US and produced three number one singles. He was also involved as a songwriter on two of the songs. Curtis Stigers ' debut album contained the 1991 hit I Wonder Why . The collaboration with Alanis Morissette was particularly successful : the album Jagged Little Pill is one of the best-selling albums of all time, with more than 16 million copies sold in the USA alone and over 30 million worldwide. In addition, the album and the associated video won three Grammy Awards , two more got the song You Oughta Know , Ballard was involved in four of the awards. He was also nominated for Producer of the Year . The follow-up album Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie was also a million seller and number one in many countries worldwide.
In 1997 Glen Ballard founded his own label Java and then took his first foray into the film business as a screenwriter and producer of the music film Clubland (1999). In the 2000s Ballard then worked a lot with established artists who were looking for a new producer. So with No Doubt Return of Saturn with the single hit Ex-Girlfriend came about . In 2003 the singer Anastacia brought Glen Ballard to the studio for her comeback album after suffering from cancer, and she had her greatest success in Europe with her own name-bearing album Anastacia . The song Left Outside Alone , co-written by Ballard , reached number one in Switzerland and Austria, among others. His production partners also included Annie Lennox , Stevie Nicks and the Dave Matthews Band . In addition, he worked in Europe with nationally successful artists such as the Dutch Anouk and the Italian Elisa . Glen Ballard is also considered to be the discoverer and supporter of Katy Perry , who he helped to embark on an international career.
Glen Ballard received his sixth Grammy in 2006 for the song Believe from the soundtrack to the film The Polar Express , which he wrote with Alan Silvestri . It was also nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe . Further compositions for films such as The Legend of Beowulf and Hannah Montana - The Film followed. He later composed the music for a complete musical with Dave Stewart : Ghost - The Musical is based on the film Ghost - Message by Sam and the screenplay by Bruce Joel Rubin and was released in 2011 in London's West End and the following year on New York's Broadway listed.
