The former Ansitz Galnstein , also called Ansitz zu Kehlberg , is a Graz mansion that is located near St. Martin Castle at Kehlbergstrasse 84. Its history goes back to the year 1665.

history

The majority on which the mansion was built once belonged to St. Martin Castle and was owned by the Breuners at the end of the 16th century . Since the Breuners were tenants of St. Martin for years, they managed to acquire the property. Around 1635 the property and courtyard belonged to a carpenter who sold it to Abraham von Hoffmann. He sold it in 1662 to Hermann Christoph von Galnstein, who built the residence next to the existing farmhouse in 1665. The property was owned by his family until 1768. In 1768 the mansion was first transferred to Franz Bernhard Gordon and later sold. From 1826 the estate had changing owners. Between 1962 and 1963 the building was rebuilt and expanded, with most of the original interior fittings being removed. Today the former residence is privately owned.

description

The mansion has a hook-shaped floor plan and smooth facades. It has a stone arched gate with the coat of arms of those of Galnstein and the inscription "HCVG 1665". Furthermore, the gate has gussets with tendrils in relief . A profiled wooden beam ceiling is found on the upper floor of the building . There is also a splendid bed with a painted representation of Venus lamenting the death of Adonis in the building.
