The Breuner (also Breiner or Breunner ) were an Austrian noble family.

history

Coat of arms epitaph for Philipp Friedrich Breiner (1601–1638), Imperial Feldzeugmeister, in the Schottenkirche in Vienna

According to older literature, the sex was located in Utrecht and Cologne in the 14th century . Conrad and Andreas Preuner came to Styria in 1385. According to the Genealogical Handbook of the Nobility (Adelslexikon Volume II, 1974), however, the Breun (n) er belong to the Styrian nobility and come from the Prein an der Rax . With Gundakarus de Prun already urkundeten in 1200 and began the secure regular series with Philipp Prewner († 1456/58), country manager in Steier. The Breuners belonged to the knighthood and served as sovereign officials. In the 13th century they are said to have built the later Hallerschloss (Graz) .

In the 16th century the family divided into a Styrian and an Austrian line. The Styrian line was raised to the rank of count in 1666 and existed until 1827. The Austrian line was founded by court chamber president Philipp von Breuner († April 23, 1556). In 1547 Ferdinand I enfeoffed him with the Staatz fortress and raised him to baron in 1550. His son Seyfried became governor of Lower Austria . The older (extinct 1716) and the younger Asparner line descend from him. In 1738, Anthonie Graf Breuner (1698–1757) inherited from the younger line the privy councilor Adrian Graf von Enckevoirt and took the name Breuner von Enkevoirt. This line expired in 1894 with August Johann Graf Breuner-Enckevoirt.
