Labrinth (2016)

Labrinth (* 4. January 1989 in London , England ; actually Timothy Lee McKenzie ) is a British Dance - / Grime - singers , rappers and R & B - musicians .

Career

Timothy McKenzie grew up as the youngest child with nine siblings in the London borough of Hackney . In his childhood he was mainly exposed to gospel music and made music in the local church. A brother had set up a home studio and started participating when he was 13. Over time, he taught himself the bass guitar, drums and keyboards. At school he studied music theory for four years and then worked in a music studio.

His first major success was the 2008 production of Master Shortie's debut album ADHD , which received critical acclaim. He also worked as a singer and songwriter. He also worked with Tinchy Stryder and Chipmunk . He helped Tinie Tempah's breakthrough in 2010 as a co-author of his debut hit Pass Out , which reached number 1 in the UK charts and was named Single of the Year at the BRIT Awards . In the follow-up hit Frisky , which came in second, he was officially named as a co-interpreter. He stepped into the limelight for the first time and received offers from various labels. He decided against contracts as a producer and songwriter and accepted an offer from Simon Cowell's record label Syco Music , which enabled him to publish his own. Cowell had stood up especially for him and for the first time in six years signed a singer who did not come from a casting show .

In late September 2010, he released his first single Let the Sun Shine . It immediately entered the top 3 and achieved gold status . While working on his debut album, he also stayed behind the scenes. He produced the benefit single Teardrop , a cover version of the song by Massive Attack with various artists , for Ms. Dynamite and for the charity project BBC Children in Need . Before his album was finished, the song Earthquake was released in October 2011 with Tinie Tempah as a guest. He just missed first place and was awarded platinum. In total, he stayed in the top 100 for almost a full year. The song was also successful in other countries, especially in Australia and New Zealand.

The debut album Electronic Earth took another five months to release and reached number 2 in the UK in April 2012. Last Time was another top 5 hit from the album and with the release Express Yourself it entered the German charts for the first time . It wasn't until October that the song Beneath Your Beautiful appeared with Emeli Sandé as the singer, but then it became the album's biggest hit. In Great Britain it reached number 1 and double platinum, in the German-speaking countries it was ranked between 10 and 25 and platinum or gold. The song even made it into the top 40 in the US singles charts. It was nominated for an award in the Single of the Year category at the BRIT Awards and best song at the MOBO Awards .

Labrinth began working on a second album immediately, but the completion date was repeatedly postponed and eventually given up. Two songs, Let It Be and Jealous , which were earmarked for the album, came out individually in 2014 and hit top chart spots. After that he made himself rare with his own publications and worked as a producer again. He appeared as a guest musician with publications by Sigma , The Weeknd , Kygo and Noah Cyrus and reached international charts. He was involved in the production of the globally successful albums Beauty Behind the Madness by The Weeknd (2015) and Divide by Ed Sheeran (2017). In the same year another single was released, but Misbehaving was unsuccessful.

The following year he teamed up with the Australian singer and songwriter Sia and the American DJ Diplo for the all-star project LSD . They released several singles, including Genius and Thunderclouds , which were internationally successful. On June 7th, his new single Miracle was released with a music video.
