backgrounds

Before the title was officially released, a live version of the song was released on Labrinth's VEVO channel on March 25, 2012 . The song is supposed to be a response to Charles Wright & the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Bands Express Yourself , a song from 1970. Labrinth himself told The Sun about the song: “My mum used to play the original - The Charles Wright version, not NWA - I just thought it would be a nice nod back to my mum and those times by putting my version on the album. "Part of the lyrics is:" Ain't got the X Factor, I'm not what they expect. "(" I don't have the X-Factor, I am not what they are asking "), alluding to the fact that he has been the first musician on the Syco label for several years who did not take part in a casting show.

Music video

The music video was first released on YouTube on May 16, 2012 . In it you can see Labrinth on a rotating chair in front of a wall painted with graffiti. This is supposed to be a parody of the Prince of Bel-Air . Series or films such as The Simpsons or Ice Age are also parodied in the song . It takes three minutes and 32 seconds. A behind-the-scenes video was also published, which was posted on YouTube a few days before the official video .
