Lovesong (sometimes titled as Love Song ) is a song by the British alternative rock band The Cure from 1989. It was released from their eighth album Disintegration on August 21, 1989 as the third single. The song became a huge hit , particularly in the United States , reaching number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 ; it was her only top ten hit. In the UK, the single only reached a top 20 placement.

The title of the song is often given in different ways; these vary between lovesong and love song (on many of The Cure's releases). On the original cover illustration from 1989 the song is titled Lovesong , but in the album title list and in the accompanying booklet it is titled Love Song . Robert Smith originally wrote the song as a declaration of love to his girlfriend Mary.
Charts
Even before its release as a single, Lovesong was successful and reached number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 , their most successful single in the United States; the title was also able to celebrate successes in various rock charts. In the United Kingdom, Lovesong only reached number 18. In Germany , the song reached number 21 on the charts. In Austria and Switzerland managed Lovesong not chart. Only in Poland was Lovesong a number one hit in 1989; it was number 1 in the Polish charts for three weeks .

Founding member Lol Tolhurst was not featured in the music video. During the production of the song he was still a member of The Cure. However, he was kicked out of the band shortly after the album was released.
