Lukas Graham is a Danish music group from Copenhagen . It combines the styles of soul , funk , hip-hop and pop . The band members also call this style “ghetto pop”.
history
The band members are all from Copenhagen and have all been to the same school at different times. In 2009 they recorded their first pieces of music. The band was named after their front man Lukas Graham Forchhammer. He spent his childhood in the alternative housing estate Christiania . He was also a member of the Copenhagen Boys Choir and worked as an actor and voice actor in the 1990s. The band's career began in 2011 when they published two videos of the songs Criminal Mind and Drunk in the Morning recorded in Forchhammer's house on YouTube , which were then shared on Facebook . The band's sound spread in the Copenhagen underground and the record company Copenhagen Records, with which Mads Langer already had his first successes, became aware of the group. In October 2011 Lukas Graham's debut single, Ordinary Things , was released, after which 30,000 concert tickets for their first tour were sold, although no album by the band had yet been released.
The band's first album, which was titled after the band itself, was released in Denmark in March 2012 and reached gold status within the first week of its release. The album went platinum four times in Denmark. The singles Ordinary Things , Drunk in the Morning and Criminal Mind also received platinum awards. The songs on the album were written by Lukas Forchhammer, Stefan Forrest, Sebastian Fogh and Brandon Beal.
In November 2012, the band was nominated seven times for the Danish version of Echos , the Danish Music Award , and received the award for "Best Newcomer".
style
The band's musical style is described as approachable and down to earth. Forchhammer himself states that he learned classical music in school and listened to his father's old records. These included records from The Who , the Beatles and a lot of rock 'n' roll , music that was played with real instruments and inspired him musically.
