features

Colored males of the Erythrodiplax luteofrons have a very dark brown, almost blackish body. Only the inside of the thighs of the foremost pair of legs are whitish and the face is colored. The basic color of the face is yellowish white. The sides of the forehead , which is flattened in the upper part, and the post clypeus are greenish. While the upper lip is yellow in color, the lower lip is ocher in color with a brown area in the middle that, in some specimens, spreads over the entire lower lip. The parting is metallic blue and becomes yellowish towards the base. The back of the head is again black.

In the younger animals, the sides of the trunk are light olive and the ante-humeral area is brown. The first two abdominal segments are still orange on the top and sides. In addition, there is a yellowish-green stripe from the fifth to the ninth segment, which is interrupted by the transverse keels.

The abdomen has the shape of a hand spindle and measures 18 millimeters without the abdominal appendages . The upper abdominal appendages are 1.2 millimeters longer than the lower ones, which measure 0.9 millimeters. The genitals of the males are on the second segment.

Except for a golden-yellow spot at the base, the wings are whitewashed from transparent to slightly brown. The wings of the rear wing pair are 23 mm long and up to 7 mm wide. The wing mark is ocher and measures around three millimeters.
