Hometown Glory is the debut single of British singer Adele from her debut album 19 . The song was released as a single in the United Kingdom on October 22, 2007 . In 2008 the song was re-released as the fourth single on the album. Adele wrote the song in just ten minutes after her mother put her off the idea of leaving her London borough of West Norwood .
Hometown Glory was first released on their record label Pacemaker Recordings . There the song was only released as a 7 "vinyl record, limited to 500 copies . Initially, the decoupling did not make it into the charts. In the release week of their debut album 19 , the song made it into the UK charts for the first time through high download sales . In 2010 the song was nominated for a Grammy for Best Female Vocal Performance - Pop .

Music video
The Hometown Glory limited record release did not have a promo video. The music video was shot in front of a supermarket in Hayes, West London for the single's re-release . In the music video, Adele sings the song in the parking lot, while posters of different cities move around Adele.

On April 7th, 2008 you could hear Hometown Glory in the drama series Skins - Hautnah , thus the single rose again to the UK Top 40 at number 32. On April 24th, 2008 the song was heard in the One Tree Hill series . On May 22, 2008, the song could be heard in the fourth season finale of Grey's Anatomy . According to Adele's manager Jonathan Dickins, Alexandra chose Patsava's Hometown Glory after watching Adele sing it at the Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles . On June 10, 2008, the song was heard in the British soap Hollyoaks . It was used again on October 13, 2008 and November 5, 2010.
On July 2, 2008, the song was used for the fourth season of the US series So You Think You Can Dance with a dance by Katee Shean and Joshua Allen. The song was also heard in the second season of Secret Diary of A Call Girl . A remix version of the song was used for the drama comedy Misfits and for the soap opera Coronation Street . The song was also heard in an episode of 90210 and in The Hills . The song was sampled by rapper Big KRIT on his single Hometown Hero .
Charts
On April 13, 2008, Hometown Glory rose to number 32 in the UK singles chart after being used in the Skins series . On July 6, 2008 the song rose again to number 74 and climbed to number 49 the following week. On July 27, 2008, the song reached its highest ranking with number 19. The song reached number 162 in the annual charts. In Belgium , the song was particularly successful in Wallonia , where it reached number 3 and in Flanders number 14 in the charts. In France the song only reached number 95 and in the Netherlands the single reached number 25.
The song garnered some attention in the US but missed the Billboard Hot 100 .
