25 is the third studio album by British singer Adele . It was released worldwide on November 20, 2015. Like the first two albums 19 and 21 , it is named after the age of the singer when she started working on the album. So production took two years.
The album contains eleven songs, all of which Adele was involved as a writer. She worked with Bruno Mars , Ryan Tedder , Paul Epworth , Max Martin and Shellback , among others .
Like the two previous albums, the album cover shows a recording of Adele's head. This time it's a close-up of the face with the eyes open.
success
The previous album 21 was one of the most successful albums in recent years. Since the James Bond song Skyfall 2012, Adele had made herself musically rare. The preliminary single Hello was released after a three-year break and immediately entered the charts in numerous countries at number 1. The album was released four weeks later, but unlike the single and most of the other albums of the year, it was not released for music streaming and was therefore only available for purchase. Like the song, it also reached the top of the charts in numerous countries around the world. In addition, it set numerous records in the first week of sales.
In the US alone, 25 sold 3.38 million times in the first seven days. Since Nielsen's electronic record of direct sales in 1991, no album had sold more than 3 million copies in a week in the US. The best debut to date, No Strings Attached by * NSYNC (2000), was only 2.42 million. 41% of all albums sold in the US that week were Adele's newest work. The singer also set a new record in her home country of Great Britain, selling 800,307 copies in the first week of sales. In 1997, Oasis had sold 696,000 copies of their Be Here Now album , but in just a few days, as it was only released three days before the chart date. In Germany, Adele also got off to a very successful start with 263,000 albums sold, which was last surpassed eight years earlier by Herbert Grönemeyer (album 12 ). Within a month the album was awarded five platinum records in Germany for over a million units sold, making it one of the best-selling music albums in Germany since 1975. In each of the three countries, the album set a new download record in the first week.
It wasn't until June 24, 2016 that the album was also released on streaming services.
At the 2017 Grammy Awards , 25 was named Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album .
