Laing is a singing group from Berlin , which consists of three singers and one dancer. The lead singer , songwriter and producer is Nicola Rost. Her style is electro-soul-pop. Laing herself describes her style as "Electric Ladysound". The name of the band was taken from Nicola Rost's mother's maiden name .

occupation

In addition to Nicola Rost, the founding members were the singers Susanna Berivan and Johanna Marshall and the choreographer and dancer Marisa Akeny. When performing live, the ensemble is accompanied by drummer Milian Vogel. Susanna Berivan left Laing in favor of her solo career. Atina Tabé took her place. From the summer of 2014, Larissa Pesch sang instead of Atina Tabé, who left the band to concentrate on her acting career. At the beginning of 2018, with the album Fotogena, Josefine Werner joined the group for Larissa Pesch.

In 2014 Nicola Rost said about the way the band works and their composition: “The girls say goodbye after the concerts and are out. I am the driven one who always has to go on. "

style

Laing sings in German; the singing is accompanied by electronic sounds and beats . In the Tonart broadcast on Deutschlandfunk Kultur , Laing's music on the Fotogena album was described as "Electrosoul plus a bit of chanson" . Black desk lamps on the microphone stands and a uniform stage outfit are typical of the group .

history

On September 28, 2012, Laing represented the federal state of Saxony at the Bundesvision Song Contest 2012 in Berlin with their first hit, Mornings Always Tired, and took second place. The title is a cover version of the song I'm always tired in the morning (on the album I don't want chocolate ) by Trude Herr from 1960. At the end of November 2012, the song made it into the charts again due to its use in a commercial. It rose to the top 10 on the charts; this exceeded the record from the first chart entry.

On March 5, 2015, they took part in our song for Austria , the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 , with the songs Show your muscles and change the lighting . The group made it into the top four. After the last concert in 2015 until September 2017, the band took a break. The third album, Fotogena , was released on September 7, 2018 .
