Ben Lauber

Ben Lauber (* as Bernd Lauber in the second half of the 20th century) is a German musician , sound artist and composer .

biography

After autodidactic occupation with guitar, piano and drums, Ben Lauber studied classical drums at the Hoch Conservatory in Frankfurt am Main with Karl Setzer. As a drummer he was an active member of the State Youth Orchestra of Hesse. He studied musicology in Berlin and took composition courses for electronic music ( Trevor Wishart , Hans Tutschku ) and new music ( Karlheinz Stockhausen , Helmut Zapf ).

He completed an internship in the Hansa recording studio , where he met his long-time musical partner, Moses Schneider . With him he founded the production collective and the production location Transporterraum in 1996 , in which the two jointly produced artists such as Quarks , Mediengruppe Telekommander , Viktoriapark and Peter Licht .

He worked as a musician, arranger, composer and producer in the studio for Dendemann , Fraktus , Dieter Meier , Tocotronic and Beatsteaks . Since 2005 he has been working with Marco Haas on the T. Raumschmiere project . As a live musician he was on stage with Susie van der Meer , Laing and Apparat ( Devil`s Walk Tour ) and is an integral part of the Olli Schulz Live Band.

With PC Nackt he founded the artist collective Berlin String Theory in 2006, from which the other projects Göteborg String Theory, Aachen String Theory and Los Angeles String Theory developed. In these he worked with national and international musicians (Tocotronic, Anna von Hausswolff , Midaircondo and others) and worked there as an arranger and drummer. In 2011 and 2017 he toured Europe and the USA with Jose Gonzalez & The String Theory Orchestra. The album Sekou Andrews & The String Theory was nominated for the GRAMMY Award 2020 in the Spoken Words category and won the award in the Best Spoken Word Album and Song category at the 18th Independent Music Awards.

He also writes music for theater and film. In his collaboration with the directing duo See! he set several plays by Peter Licht to music. For the play Only Utopias Are Still Realistic! together with the Ensemble Analogtheater he received the Cologne Theater Prize 2017. The play Die Psychonauten: Asche was nominated for the Cologne Theater Prize 2018. As a sound artist, he has exhibited his mostly multi-channel sound installations in Germany, Austria, Poland, Denmark and Spain.
