Exhibitions (selection)

In 2005 Candice Breitz had her breakthrough at the Venice Art Biennale with her video installation Mother + Father . On twelve screens, six male and female Hollywood actors are removed from the film context and seen against a black background. A conversation develops between fathers and mothers about parenting.

On November 28, 2008 the Temporäre Kunsthalle Berlin opened with its two-part exhibition Inner + Outer Space . In the first part she showed Working Class Hero (A Portrait of John Lennon) , 2006, King (A Portrait of Michael Jackson) , 2005 and Queen (A Portrait of Madonna) , 2005. For all three works the artist was looking for fans who were as authentic as possible , who were ready to present a complete album of the artists in front of the camera in their very own way. How big is the influence of pop music on the lives of the recipients? The fans, as the most intense recipients, are part of the study to address this question. In the second part of the exhibition, this theme was retained with the work Working Class Hero (A Portrait of John Lennon) , followed by Father , 2005, and Him , 1968–2008, a new work by the artist. Detached from the context of the film roles, the actor Jack Nicholson is in dialogue with himself.
