Suzanne Cotter

Suzanne Cotter (born April 20, 1961 in Melbourne , Australia ) is an Australian art historian and curator .

life and work

After graduating from Queensland University of Technology , Suzanne Cotter studied art history at Melbourne University . In 1991 she began studying museology at the École du Louvre in Paris. She continued her studies in art history at the Courtauld Institute of Art in London. She then studied cultural management at City University London .

From 1996 to 1998 Cotter was curator for the Serpentine Gallery , Hayward Gallery and Whitechapel Art Gallery in London and from 2002 to 2009 she was curator and deputy director of Modern Art Oxford . Since 2005, Cotter has been a knight of the French order Ordre des Arts et des Lettres . In 2010 she was appointed curator for the planned Guggenheim Museum in Abu Dhabi and in 2011 for the 10th Sharjah Biennial in Sharjah .

From 2013 to 2017 Cotter was director of the Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Serralves in Porto , Portugal . She was a member of the search committee for the management of documenta 14 in Kassel and has been director of MUDAM in Luxembourg since January 2018 .

She has organized solo exhibitions by Piero Manzoni , Lucio Fontana and Paul Klee in collaboration with Bridget Riley and Robert Kudielka . Cotter published texts and organized exhibitions on Seth Price , Cecily Brown, Trisha Donnelly , Silke Otto-Knapp, Michael Clark , Monica Bonvicini , Angela Bulloch , Daniel Buren , Jake and Dinos Chapman , Jannis Kounellis , Mike Nelson , Fiona Tan and Kelley Walker.
