Mike Nelson

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Michael "Mike" Nelson (born August 20, 1967 ) is a British installation artist . He represented Great Britain at the 2011 Venice Biennale . Nelson was nominated twice for the Turner Prize : 2001 ( Martin Creed won it ) and 2007 ( Mark Wallinger won ).

Nelson's installations usually only exist for the period of the exhibition for which they were created. Often it is about extensive labyrinths in which the viewer should find his own way. His work for the 2001 Biennale, "The Deliverance and the Patience" ( English The Redemption and Patience ) was in a former brewery on Giudecca . In September 2007 he showed A Psychic Vacuum in Essex Street Market, New York. Other projects were 24A Orwell Street King's Cross Sydney , The Coral Reef at Tate Britain (2000–2011) and the exhibition Mike Nelson: Amnesiac Hide in Toronto (2014).
