history

The history of the university began in 1849 when the "Brisbane School of Arts" was founded, which trained technicians in the tertiary education sector from 1882, now as the "Brisbane Technical College". From 1908 women were also allowed to study. The subjects offered were mathematics, literary studies, professions in health care and electrical engineering. In 1911 the "Kindergarten Training College" was founded, which served to train careers in the kindergarten area . In 1914, the "Queensland Teachers Training College" was established to train teachers. In 1965 the Queensland Institute of Technology was founded with the departments chemistry, engineering, general studies, economics, architecture and construction. But art and culture have also been offered in the university since the 1970s at the “Kelvin Grove College of Advanced Education”. The training program includes dance, theater, visual arts, but also inpatient nursing and housekeeping . In 1990 the QUT was merged with the Brisbane College of Advanced Education, which specialized in economics, the humanities and education, but retained the name QUT. Today around 40,000 students study at QUT, many of them as international exchange students. She is an associate member of the European Research Center for Information Systems .
