history

First mention

On July 22, 1133, Bishop Otto von Halberstadt donated three and a half hooves to St. Johann monastery in Halberstadt and four hooves in Hüttenrode ( in Hiddenroht , originally Hindenroht , in the Hiddenrodt copy ), which his predecessor, Bishop Reinhard, had acquired from Count Palatine Friedrich von Sommerschenburg , and a hoof that Eckehard had had as a fief. The original document is in the Saxony-Anhalt State Archives in Magdeburg .

On September 8, 1225, the papal legate Konrad von Urach confirmed the possessions of the St. Johann monastery in Hiddenrot .

Further development

Former Braunesumpf stop near Hüttenrode

The place belonged to the state of Braunschweig until 1945 and only then came to Saxony-Anhalt.

There was a lot of mining going on in the area. Mainly iron ore and iron stone were mined. With the construction of the Rübelandbahn in 1885/1886, the industrialization of the place was advanced. Today one tries to develop tourism further.

During the advance of the US Army on Hüttenrode on April 18, 1945, American artillery accidentally fired friendly fire on its own troops and killed 15 soldiers.

From 1970 to 1993 the branch office of the Reinhold Julius company vocational school of the DVZ Magdeburg was located on the former Braunesumpf mining site . Theoretical training of apprentices from other data processing centers in the GDR also took place here.

On January 1, 2010, the previously independent municipality of Hüttenrode was incorporated into the city of Blankenburg (Harz) together with the municipalities of Heimburg , Cattenstedt , Wienrode and Timmenrode and the city of Derenburg .
