Cattenstedt is a district of the town of Blankenburg (Harz) in the Harz district in Saxony-Anhalt .
Geographical location
Cattenstedt is located in the north of the Harz, southeast of the city of Blankenburg (Harz) , on federal highway 81 , which continues south towards Hasselfelde . The nature reserve and excursion destination Teufelsmauer extends northeast of the village . The Jordanbach flows through Cattenstedt.
history
Cattenstedt was first mentioned in 1199 as the seat of Burcadus de Cattenstede. Representatives of this noble family are documented until 1287 at the manor house in the village. A chapel , the predecessor of St. Martin's Church, and a mill in the village are mentioned as early as 1204 . The St. Martin Church was initially just a fortified church and was only expanded later. It was renovated in 2013. In winter, services do not take place in the church (except for Christmas Eve), but in the church's premises on the B 81 . These are called the consumer church.
From 1630 to 1865 the manor Cattenstedt was owned by the von Kropff family, who in 1717 initiated the baroque building that is still in existence today. The manor is privately owned.
On January 1, 2010, the previously independent municipality of Cattenstedt was incorporated into the city of Blankenburg (Harz) together with the municipalities of Heimburg , Hüttenrode , Wienrode and Timmenrode and the city of Derenburg .

Leisure and sports facilities
Cattenstedt has a soccer field with an adjoining multi-purpose building, which z. B. is used for the annual Easter fire. There is also a riding arena called "Rittergut".
